Writers Workshops
The Writers Workshop is offering brief personal statement workshops in room 295 Undergraduate Library for students (primarily undergraduates) who are writing personal statements or any other type of application essay. Students should call 333-8796 to reserve a spot at one of these times:

Sessions will be interactive, starting with a brief presentation given by our consultants introducing the concept of personal statements, followed by a discussion on some strategies and pitfalls, sample statements, and time for questions and answers. Students will also have an opportunity to get individual feedback on their own personal statements if time allows.

IMPORTANT - Changes to the Business Minor
The College of Business has announced some significant changes to the College of Business’s Minor Program’s admission policy and practices. These are effective immediately.
- Applicants must submit their Business Minor Applications throughout the month of January. All applicants will be notified of their admission decisions by Mid-February. The May Application Period will be eliminated.
- Applicants must complete at least 45 hours and all the Prerequisite courses by the end of the fall semester to become eligible for admission from the January Application Period. All admitted students will enroll into the summer sessions and fall semester Business Minor courses during the April Advanced Registration Period.
- Admitted students will be strongly advised to begin the minor’s course requirements with enrollment into the summer session Business Minor courses.

Eligibility: Any student with freshman standing at UIUC for the 2012-13 school year and who has demonstrated an aptitude for and a skill in writing poetry.
Rules: Students should submit no more than 5 poems and the total should not exceed 5 pages.

Would you like to talk about US academic writing?
Do you sometimes wonder what your writing assignments mean?
Do you struggle to talk with your professors and classmates about writing?
Would you like to practice US conventions of using sources?
Then you would want to join the FREE writing groups for multilingual students hosted by the Writers Workshop. These groups are specifically for writers whose first language is not English and we will meet in a 4-week session. Topics will be tailored to your needs but may include organizing ideas, understanding different writing tasks, understanding instructors’ responses and using sources. The sessions will be led by an experienced Writers Workshop consultant who understands struggles with writing in English.
- In order to participate, you must attend the informational meeting to sign up and attend ALL sessions.
- Students who have participated in the Navigating Academic Writing groups in the past are not eligible.
