Information for Education Prospects

Planning to Apply to Secondary or Foreign Language Teaching this Spring?!?

Writer’s Workshop holding special walk-in hours for secondary and foreign language teaching students!

The Writer’s Workshop is offering, for secondary and BAT applicants ONLY, special walk-in hours where you can review critical components of your application that you need help with.  This is an extremely generous offer, as the Writer’s workshop is opening early to accommodate you guys specifically.  Please take advantage of this so that they will continue to offer this to students each year.  The hours are as follows:

We're going to plan our drop-in hours for
Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 3:00 to 5:00
Thursday, Jan. 17 from 3:00 to 5:00
Room 251 UGL for both days
The consultants will be available at those times for brief review of applications. No appointment is necessary for these hours, but students should know that they may only get a short time with the consultant. It would be wise to decide which parts of the application are most critical so the consultant can focus on that. We're looking forward to seeing your students!

For those applying in spring, step by step instructions to understanding the application process:  You will want to go to http://www.las.illinois.edu/students/programs/majors/ to get the actual application and additional information.

1)      You will want to go to https://wiki.cites.uiuc.edu/wiki/display/awsepw/BAT+Prospective+and+Current+Students for general information as well, and information about the components of the application.

2)     View the BAT PowerPoint to learn specifics about the application.

3)     There is no longer a resume required.  It is replaced by an Experiences form that you will need to fill out electronically.  There is  PDF version of this form available at http://www.las.illinois.edu/students/programs/majors/ so you can see what the form looks like and prepare ahead of time but when you are actually applying, you will want to use the word version where you can type on the form directly.  The word document can be found at https://wiki.cites.uiuc.edu/wiki/display/awsepw/BAT+Prospective+and+Current+Students. DO NOT CHANGE THE FORMATTING OF THE FORM, JUST FILL IT IN.

4)     Make sure that you are familiar with the requirements for the TAP and the exemption criteria, found at https://wiki.cites.uiuc.edu/wiki/display/awsepw/Illinois+Certification+Testing+System+%28ICTS%29+Requirements

5)     Make sure that you are familiar with the Tutoring requirements and the Hours Verification Form, which needs to be submitted with your application.  Information can be found at: https://wiki.cites.uiuc.edu/wiki/display/awsepw/Tutoring+Requirement

I will not be answering any questions about your application process, but I hope that all of you make it!   Even though it is a competitive process, if you have the GPA, you write meaningful and well-developed essays, you have good comments on the hours verification form and you have completed the requirements, then you have a great shot at this!  GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU, I’m definitely thinking about you!

Sincerely,
Adva
